Third Trimester Checklist: Your Ultimate Guide to the Home Stretch

Donna Cox teaching Antenatal Class Auckland

Hey lovely mamas-to-be!

Can you believe it? You’re in the third trimester! The finish line is in sight, and soon you'll be holding your precious little one in your arms. But before that magical moment, there's a bit of prep to do. Don’t worry, though—I’ve got your back with this ultimate third trimester checklist. Let’s dive in and make sure you’re ready for the big day and beyond!

1. Pack Your Hospital Bag

This one’s a must-do. Start with the essentials:

  • For You: Comfy clothes, toiletries, a robe, nursing bras, and snacks.

  • For Baby: Onesies, a going-home outfit, nappies, and a cozy blanket.

  • For Your Partner: Change of clothes, snacks, phone charger, and a camera to capture those first precious moments.

2. Install the Car Seat

Make sure your car seat is properly installed ahead of time. You don’t want to be fumbling with it when it’s time to bring baby home. There are even places that can check the installation for you to make sure it's done right.

3. Create a Birth Plan

Your birth plan is your wish list for labor and delivery. Think about things like pain management, who you want in the room, and any special requests for after baby arrives. Remember, flexibility is key—things might not go exactly as planned, and that’s okay!

4. Attend Antenatal Classes

Our antenatal classes in Auckland are designed to prepare you for everything from labor to newborn care. Plus, they’re a great way to meet other expectant parents. You’ll learn about:

5. Stock Up on Essentials

Make sure you have all the basics ready to go:

  • For Baby: Nappies, wipes, onesies, bottles (if you plan to use them), and a safe place to sleep.

  • For You: Postpartum pads, comfortable underwear, nursing pads, and any recovery supplies recommended by your healthcare provider.

6. Set Up Baby’s Space

Whether it’s a nursery or a corner of your room, have your baby’s sleeping and changing area ready. Wash all those cute little clothes and linens, and have everything organized so it’s easy to find in those early days.

7. Plan for Help

Organize a support system for after baby arrives. This could be family, friends, or a postpartum doula. Don’t be afraid to ask for help—those first few weeks can be overwhelming, and you deserve all the support you can get.

8. Practice Relaxation Techniques

Labor can be intense, but knowing some relaxation techniques can make a big difference. Try out pregnancy yoga or hypnobirthing to learn how to stay calm and focused during labor. Plus, it’s a great way to connect with your body and your baby.

9. Prepare Freezer Meals

Stock your freezer with easy-to-reheat meals. You’ll thank yourself when you’re too tired to cook but still want a nutritious meal. Think soups, casseroles, and easy one-dish meals.

10. Pamper Yourself

Take some time for self-care. Get a prenatal massage, take relaxing baths, and enjoy quiet moments to yourself. It’s important to recharge and take care of yourself as you prepare for motherhood.
